Deadman Pcychoroid GV8695

My watch today is another of the wonderfully varied Deadman watches. The brand was released in the late 90s and seems to have sold many different styles, but seem quite rare. 

This time it is model number GV 8695 and has the name Psychoroid. 

The watch has a standard Japanese miyota module powering a rotating disc design in a quite elegant looking rounded case.

Deadman Quartz GV 4089

Even though I've not been blogging for a while, I've been keeping up with trying to find more watches in some of my sub-collections.

Today's watch is one of those and is from the Deadman (or Dead man) watch line that I still only know small amounts about. I do plan to pull together a brand page to cover all of the models I know about (which is more than I've blogged so far) so keep an eye out for that page soon!

This model is the GV 4089 (or GV4089), and is one of the more 'normal' designs that Deadman produced. It is a quartz analogue design with a very 60s/70s feel to the design. It has a deep metal case with an oval face covered by thick glass. The face is a 3 hand dial design with silver hands and numbers at the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions on a black background. The only text on the front is Deadman and Quartz, and the back has the brand name and the model number. The design is completed with a silver metal strap with the usual Deadman embossed bracelet clip.

I have confirmation that the Deadman watches were out in the late 90s, but don't know how long they lasted, and when released, they seem to have been sold around the ¥4000 mark.

Deadman Quartz GV5766 Red and Blue

This is my second Deadman post in a row, as those one was close at hand and ready to wear.

The model will be easily recognised by long-time followers of my blog as the quartz rotating disc design GV5766. What I'd been finding about the Deadman watches was that there were more different designs than I was finding duplicates of any design, but this model is the exception. So far, this seems to be the most popular of the models, with many different variations of strap colour and texture being released.

This particular version has a silver case and a black face with gold writing. The strap sections are in a smooth leather and this time are red for the top half and blue for the bottom half.

Deadman Skull Watch GV 6674

I'm going to a late Halloween party tonight, so wanted to have a watch with a bit of a horror theme, and this Deadman watch seemed to be perfect.

The Deadman (or Dead Man) brand is one of my favourite lines of watches, but are relatively unknown online. They are a fashion brand which was around in the late 90s, making a wide range of different designs, but I don't know how long they were active for. Some of the designs used have been used by other brands as well, so that just makes it more of a mystery.

This model is the GV 6674 (maybe GV6674), and has the most unusual case shape of the range so far. The design seems to be an alien skull with a large forehead where the face sits, with the eyes and smiling mouth below. The clock part is a quartz analogue 3 hand dial design, with no numbers, just markers at the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions. The Deadman name is on the face, the back plate, and also on the clasp of the matching metal strap.

One other mysterious thing with this design was that one day I also found a fabric sew-on patch with a similar alien skull shape, but with a yin & yang symbol where the clock is here, and it was also being called Deadman...

Deadman GV4062

I'm back to one of my favourite mystery brands again today with this watch by Deadman.

The Deadman (or Dead Man) watches are Japanese fashion watches which I've managed to pin down to being from the late 90s (based on a couple of magazines from that time). They have produced many different designs, and I've so far found more different models than I've seen duplicates. There also seems to be a connection to other brands such as Deep, Module, and Eccentric Classic with common designs, but I've not concluded why so far.

Today's model is the GV4062 (or GV 4062) which has a style which I would say is heavily influenced by the Seiko Alba AKA designs. It has a quartz analogue display with a 3 hand dial design. The face design and colour /pattern around the edges is very similar to some of the AKA watches with silver hour markers and a red, blue, and grey square pattern around the edge of the dial.

The case is round at the top, widening towards the back and the strap connection points, and makes me think of the shape of a volcano. The strap is metal and also very AKA-like with the tuning fork (or chunky American Football goalpost) shaped first link.

The back just has the usual Deadman style, stating it is Stainless steel, and showing the Deadman name and the model number.

Deadman GV8292

I seem to have been blogging the Japanese fashion watches a lot recently, and I'm going for another one today.

Today's choice is one of my Deadman (or Dead Man) watches (the 15th on the blog), which is one of my favourite mystery brands. As mentioned in previous posts, they were around in the late 90s, and produced many different designs of watch (over 30 at my last count), but lot much more is published about them.

This model is the GV8292 and is one of their disc models. It has a left sided rotating disc design (meaning the discs are arranged on the left side of the spindle with the hours on the outer dial), which is like the old jump hour watch designs. The watch case is the what tends to change between the models, and this design has a metal case (in black) getting wider towards the middle, except for a narrow band across the middle where the time is. The band is in gold and has the Deadman Quartz text next to the time display. The strap is metal, and in a matching black coating. The back has the usual Deadman info (model number, stainless steel back, name), but also has an 'Assembled in China' sticker.

I have no firm idea on the date, other than knowing that the brand was active in the late 90s, and that they were a low cost manufacturer.

Deadman E.S.P GV4094

Today is another Deadman watch, and another different design style.

One of the reasons that the Deadman (or maybe Dead Man) watches have become a favourite of mine is that they have one of the most diverse line-up of watch designs I've come across. The brand itself is still a mystery, but I've seen over 30 different designs, and I keep coming across more. The numbering system suggests there are a lot more I haven't seen yet, and it is still rate I'm seeing duplicates (which suggests statistically that they made a lot of designs, but each in only a small quantity). The brand was around in the late 90s, as it was featured in magazines of the time, but there is no record of when they stopped. The designs have also been seen in other, potentially more recent, brands so I don't know if they merged, we're copied, or commissioned designs from another party.

This model is called the E.S.P, and is a quartz rotating disc design. The disc system is shown on the left side and is a continuously rotating 3 disc design. The time is set into a blue panel which is an upside-down house shape (that has a name which currently escapes me...) and the brand and model name is also printed under the glass. The case is chunky and metal with a mixture of brushed and shiny surfaces in a hard to describe shape. Below the face, the Deadman logo is engraved into the metal in its retro computer writing font.

The back just has the usual limited information with the logo, statement on the stainless steel back, and the model number. This model number is GV4094 (or GV 4094 as it seems to be written).

As the Deadman watches have only been confirmed to be around in the late 90s, I guess that is the date for this model too. The brand was a low price design, and the watch would have been around ¥3,800.

Deadman GV4095 Dial and Disc

Today is my first Deadman watch of the year, and one of the most unusual designs I've found.

The Deadman range are one of my personal favourites, as they made an interesting range of designs but I don't know too much about them (yet). The watches were around in the late 90s, and featured in the watch magazines of that time, but apart from that, there is nothing published about them (apart from on my blog). The watches were low cost fashion watches with prices around ¥3-4000, compared to the ¥12-20,000 of the similarly aged 1481010 watches.

This model has a different way of telling the time compared to anything I've come across in my years of collecting. I've blogged many watches with dials or discs, but this is the first with both, in parallel. The watch shows the time in two ways at the same time. There is an inner circle where there are windows to read the rotating disc (hours at the top on an inner ring, and minutes at the bottom on the outer ring). Around the outside of this circle you can see the ends of the two hands which show exactly the same time (as the hands are part of the discs) with a pointer for hours and line for minutes. There is also a seconds marker which is a small dot which also goes around the outside.

The watch has a round face in a metal case, with a metal strap and usual Deadman clasp. The markings on the back state this is the GV4095.

Deadman Rotating Disc GV2274

Today is my New Years Eve post so I wanted a watch which had a good seconds display.

The model I chose is another from my collection of Deadman watches with a display a little like a countdown clock.

The Deadman (or Dead Man) watches are a mystery fashion brand from the late 90s which I've ended up with a collection of. I don't know how many exist, so if you have one, please get in touch!

This model is called the GV 2274 and is one of their quartz rotating disc models. It has a strange shaped case which is higher on either side and dips down to the centre.

Deadman Mechanical Special Edition

This is my 1000th post on my blog! It's not quite the 1000th watch (which will come sometime next week), but I'm happy to have reached this milestone!

I decided to mark the occasion with one of my Deadman watches, and one with a very smart look.

The watch is called a Special Edition on the face, but I'm not sure if there was some special occasion it was released for, but it has a high quality look about it.
The face shows this as a skeleton watch, but with 1/2 of the face covered. The shape of the covered half is made so that the dial looks like a yin and yang symbol (or taijiku as I found out earlier this week). The back is also clear showing the very cut away mechanical movement inside. It is a hand wind mechanical watch with 3 hands and a sweep hand movement registering at least 14,400 bph (>4 beats per second). The movement is a 17 jewel design, but there are no makers marks obvious on the movement through any of the windows.

There is also no model number on this watch, which seems to be the case for most of the mechanical Deadman watches. All that is written on the watch is "Deadman, Mechanical, Hand winding mov't, 17 jewels, Special Edition".

I'm afraid I still don't know too much about the Deadman brand. I know that they were around in the late 90s, and produced a wide range of different design (as you can see by looking at the different models on my blog). The quartz watches were low cost, but they have a reasonable quality, and the mechanical watches are very well made.

Deadman Slave LSD 4343

I'm blogging another mystery Deadman watch again today.

I've still not found much more about the Deadman (or Dead man) watches since last time. All I know is that they are fashion watches from Japan in the late  90s, and they had two sets of model numbers (GV or LSD).

This model is from the LSD range and is called the Deadman Slave. It is an unusual shaped model with a mixture of lines and curves. The face is a yellow rounded trapezium shape with a 3 hand dial. This is mounted on a round flat surface which tilts down towards the bottom, and has a deep set date window at the bottom (and a round glass with a flat top). The case is more of a rounded triangle, wider at the top. It's actually quite difficult to describe, so you're better off looking at the photos. The model number is on the back and is LSD4343 (or LSD 4343).

Deadman Live Wire

Today is another Deadman and yet another different design.

The Deadman (or Dead Man) watches are one of the 1990s brands that are from a period when there doesn't seem to be much internet coverage from Japan. The brand was around in the late 90s and appeared in various watch magazines around the 1998 timeframe. They were a low cost brand (with quartz models around ¥3,800), but had interesting and unusual designs and high build quality.

This model is called Live Wire and has a model number LSD4342. Most of the watches had a GV model number, but some have LSD, although I've not worked out what differentiates the ranges.

It has a 3 hand dial design, but the quartz module is hidden behind a small round dial. Surrounding the dial is a clear glass band, with only the stem for the crown crossing the glass moat around the dial. The glass is also very thick, and protrudes 3mm from the front of the case. The strap is a metal one, and the watch has a Deadman clasp.

Deadman Quartz Rotating Disc GV5766 Gold

It's a quick post today as I'm wearing a watch that I've blogged this design before, but this is a different variant.

The watch is by the Deadman brand, who were a Japanese fashion watch brands from the late 90s with designs looking more like the 60s and 70s.

This model is the GV5766 and is a rotating disc model with a 3 disc display and quartz movement (Miyota).

The last version was a silver model with blue and black, but today's is the gold model and has a red and cream crocodile skin style leather strap.

Deadman GV 4098 LCD watch

Today's watch is another from the mysterious Deadman watches range.

This time it is an LCD watch from their collection, and the first of those to be blogged.

The brand is unusual in that it has produced so many different designs, but there is almost no facts about it online. They have made quartz and mechanical designs, with dials, discs, LCD, ana-digi, and skeleton models. The Deadman (or sometimes Dead Man) watches seem to have been around from the mid/late 90s and were features in watch magazines around that time.

This model is the first Deadman watch i got, and I'd found it in a second hand store in Tokyo. It has the same 60s/70s style as the rest of the range, and this time has a case which is the shape of an eye (especially how the front of the case bulges out with the "eyelids"). The strap is a patent leather, and has the Deadman name on the back of the strap. The back just gives the model number GV4098.

The LCD has a 6 digit inverse LCD panel with the day at the top. For the modes, there are time, date, stopwatch, and alarm, and there is also a bulb style light. There is no specific mode button, with each display being activated by it's own button.

Deadman Deluxe LSD5857

I'm back with the 6th of my Deadman watches today. I'm gradually piecing together information, and I think I might get a breakthrough from a recent purchase.

But in the interim, here is my Deadman Deluxe model.

The Deluxe is a 3 hand dial watch with a round dial, and is one of the more normal Deadman designs. It has hour markers, with numbers only at the 6 and 12 o'clock positions. Around the edge of the dial are markers for a tachymeter, which you can use against the normal seconds hand.

The watch uses a Japanese quartz movement, and in at least this model it is a Seiko Epson module (-this may be the same for all Deadmans, but I haven't been able to check yet).

The Deadman watches were released in the late 90s, and have a 60s or 70s feel. They appeared in several watch magazines when they were released, but not much is known online.

The watches came with a model number either starting GV or LSD, and this is a LSD model with the number LSD5857 (or LSD 5857).
