Casio Ana-Digi AW-61

It seems like a while since I last wore one of my Casio ana-digi watches, so here is one.

This watch is the AW-61 and is a complex looking mixture of analogue dial and LCD. Previously, I'd suggested that the AW-XX numbering was marked a series of Ana-Digi models, and today's watch still fits with that theory.

The AW-61 has a bit more separation of the analogue and digital than my previously blogged AW series watches, with the LCD below the dial rather than being in the bottom of the face. The analogue part is a two hand dial design with its own crown for setting. The LCD section is a small rectangular LCD panel with two lines (which is not so normal in an ana-digi design). By default, the LCD shows day and date along the top, with time (6 digits) along the bottom, and is also used for the other modes. Inside is a 1750 module which gives the watch alarm and stopwatch modes. The analogue and digital displays have their own batteries, with the analogue using a SR521SW and the digital taking a CR1616. The watch is quite robust with 100m water resistance, and there is an el-backlight which covers both the dial and LCD.

The AW-61 came in many colour variations, as well as a choice of plastic, metal, or leather materials, and the model numbers go from -1xx to -7xx (but I've not found what this one is) . I don't know when the AW-61 is from, but it isn't sold anymore and my guess would be 90s (although the Casio watches are very difficult to date from looks alone).

Casio AW-48 Ana-Digi watch

The more I cover, the more I realise I don't understand the numbering system of Casio. Some of the numbers such as DB being data bank watches os obvious, but the AW range today is more of a mystery as it covers different styles of watches from many ranges, but they are all Ana-Digi models (but not all Ana-Digi models are AWs).

This model is the AW-48H by Casio, and seems to be the variant AW-48HE-8A. It is a small and light resin case Ana-Digi watch with a resin strap (part number 642 EA1 16 PUR). The analogue display is an electronic 2 hand dial which is set using a button on the right side. The two buttons on the left control the digital display which is a 6 digit LCD. The watch uses a 3321 module, and has dual time, alarm, and stopwatch modes. Strangely, the top button is the mode and the bottom is the adjust which feels the wrong way around.

It seems that this watch has been produced for a while with other variations still on sale (with a numbered dial rather than using shiny markers like this variation). Saying that, I don't know when this watch is actually from.

Casio AW-80 Ana-Digi Black

Back to the Casios again today with this ana-digi model.

This watch is the AW-80 by Casio and is a watch designed for either the sporty or travelling user. It has both an analogue and digital display on a black face in a silver case. The design is completed with a black resin strap (with a part number of 626 FU2 18). This combination of colours is the AW80-1V and the AW-80 has been released in various combinations of dial, case, and strap colours/styles.

The analogue display is a 2 hand dial which is electronically controlled and adjusted through the watch hand setting mode. The numbers for the hands are around the outside of the dial and appear to be on the glass rather than the face.

The LCD is a 2 line display taking up the bottom 1/3 of the face. It has a combination of normal digits and a dot matrix array which normally show time and seconds respectively. It is powered by the 2747 module, and is a relatively feature packed watch. It is an illuminator model with telememo 30 (data bank). It can show dual times and has a world time feature. There are also 3 alarms, a timer, and a stopwatch mode.

I'm not sure how long this design has been out for, but it is still show on the Casio website.

Casio Sports Gear Exercise Trainer AW-60

I've been trying to find out about this watch today, and it's a bit strange - this one has a different module than all of the others I've found, even though it's the same model number.

The watch is the Exercise Trainer, or Personal Trainer watch by Casio, and has a model number of AW-60. It was released in 1992 and is an ana-digi model for sports, which seems to also still be for sale on various websites.

It has a curved LCD display showing 6 digits, along with two dials. The main dial is an electronic dial which adjusts automatically with the LCD display (but can be set separately if required), and there is a small seconds dial which also works for the fitness functions.

This model uses a 729 module, but most of the other AW-60s I've seen have a 730 module. The watch has fitness calculator (which also resets the main dial). This works when you put in they type of exercise, and your age, weight, and sex to set the base setup. The stopwatch then counts the time on the LCD display while the main dial shows the amount of calories you've burned (and there is an alarm for target burn). The calorie data can be saved for up to two weeks. There is also a normal daily alarm too.

It is a very colourful watch in yellow and orange, and was also found in other  variations (most commonly turquoise, pink, and black, but all with a black strap). This model has a matching yellow resin/rubber strap with a part number of 337 F2. The watch's full model number is AW-60J-9E, and this may have been a Japanese model.

The Japanese price was 9,800 yen, and the original US price may have been $79.95 to $99.00 (from Amazon), but can still be bought a little cheaper than that.
