Citizen Trans Continents "Helmet" - Glay edition D299

Today's watch is a type I've blogged before, but just in a different version.

The watch is a D299 module watch which looks a little like a motorcycle or astronaut helmet, and was released for the Japanese clothing brand Trans Continents. The Trans Continents watches were made by Citizen, and this one comes from 1998.

This particular version was made as a collaboration with the Japanese band Glay, and features their name under the glass below the inverse LCD display. Glay were formed in 1988 in Hakodate in Hokkaidō, Japan, and we're originally a Visual Kei band. They mainly produce pop and rock music, and are very popular, being the 7th highest selling band of all time in Japan (as of 2010).

The watch itself is a 2 line display LCD watch, with the time on the top, and date & day along the bottom. With the design, you only see half of the hour line when you look from directly above, so you need to look up at the watch to use it. The watch has dual alarms, dual time, stopwatch, and timer. The strap is matched to the body, and is of a design where you need to cut it to the right length (so watch out if you are buying second hand!).

Citizen Trans Continents "Helmet" D299

Today, it's back to the Trans Continents range again. The range is one of the Citizen lines, and usually has some element of travel in the design.

This particular model is one of the LCD watches in the range, and features a two line inverse LCD display. Under normal operation, the time shows on the top line, with day and date along the bottom. The watch has a D299 module with dual time, dual alarm, stopwatch, and countdown timer.

The watch design is a little like a helmet, with the sunken display showing through the "visor". The watch strap is slightly see-through, and needs to be cut to size (so watch out if you have large wrists and buy one used).

The full model number is D299-L18943, and I think it came out in 1999 (but possibly 2009).

GSX 700S sv Zort Fighter

Today, my watch is by the brand GSX, who are known in Japan for their ranges of exclusive watches and collaborations with various films, series, or products.
This watch is one of 13 watches in the 700 series, and the particular colour version is called Zort Fighter, and was released in Japan on the 15th December 1997. The front also shows the name mk5, and the watch is sometimes listed under that name. I've tried to find out what the name means but with no luck - any ideas?
The back of the watch states that it is designed by S. Misono, and produced by N. Ishida.
The module in the watch is a D299 with an inverse LCD and 2-line display. Features include dual time, dual alarm, stopwatch, and countdown timer. On the face, next to the buttons, there is writing imprinted in the body: "change" by the mode button, "hikare" by the light button (Japanese for light/illumination), "let's go" by the start/stop button, and '4 rectangles with dots in' by the split/reset button. From my crude translations, it also seems that the watch strap is special in that it is designed to grow and contract with  heat (presumably for comfort when conditions change).
