Casio Film Watch Pela FS-00

It was another watch to match with my t-shirt again today, and it is one of a series I've blogged before.

This is one of the Casio Film Watch Pela models, and the one with the lowest number (but not the first). The Film Watch models are the range of thin and super light watches Casio started in the mid-1980s.

This model is the FS-00 and is a 5mm thick rectangular LCD watch. The particular version is from the Sorbet range and is the FS-00-4A and called Chilly Lilac (although it has a more pink colour). The Sorbet range was 10 different models in pastel colours, but the models also had shorter straps than the regular models.

The FS-00 is a data bank model in the Pela range and uses the 2190 quartz module. The display is set at a 30 degree angle, which is comprised of 3 rows of dot matrix arrays. The standard display has date at the top, time (6 digits) across the middle, and day at the bottom. There is an alternative display mode where it shows animations of animals too. The animals (dog, camel, gorilla, bird, cat, and squirrel) are shown for 10 seconds each and have 2 frames in the animation. It also has world time and stopwatch, as well as the 30 slot data bank, and there is an el-backlight.

I don't know when these models were released, but I think they are 90s watches.

Casio Film Watch FS-04

I'm feeling thin today - watch-wise at least...

So, today I picked another in the range of Casio Film Watch Pela, but a different model than I've posted before. This is probably the most compact of the ana-digi film watches, but is relatively basic.

The watch has a rectangular face with a small electronic dial in the top right, and an LCD panel (with a slightly unusual shape) at the bottom. The LCD has a 6 digit display, and there is a circle above the first digits which shows the mode selection. The modes, which are selected with the top right button, are alarm, dual time, and stopwatch, and there is an el-backlight too.

It has the same thin profile as the other film watches which manages to squeeze the Casio 2322 module and the SR920 battery inside. The movement inside is Japanese, but this model is cased in Malaysia. There were several different colours available, and I think this is the FS04-7M, which was part of a range called Sorbet (with most of the variations being a pastel colour).

The film watch range was started in 1985, but I think the majority of models (such as this one) came out in the 90s.

Casio FS-10 Pela - the first film watch

I've posted a few of the Casio Film Watches and it seems like todays watch is the first.

The Casio Film watches or Pela as they were known are a range of super thin and light watches that have been released since the 80s.

This model is the Casio FS-10 and was the first of the film watch Pela models to be released. It came out in March 1985 and the concept came from the idea to mould the case and strap in one part, and used the latest hybrid moulding and microelectronics of the time. This resulted in a watch 3.9mm thick and weighing only 12g. According to Casio, this was the first ever million selling watch, but despite this, it is now classed as a very rare model. 

The watch came in (at least) two colours, and this one is the silver model (which seems less common by the ratio of pictures online). The face is square with the LCD at 45 degrees from the top left to bottom right. The button is triangular and in the bottom left, with the watches text on the top right, which says 'Casio FS-10 Auto-calendar'.

Inside is a 465 module and this runs the  digit LCD. It is a simple module, which is not surprising considering the size, and had time, date, and seconds. I've had this one working, but I have a loose connection inside so it goes black every time I try to screw on the back.

Casio Film Watch FS-01 Mayfly Tokyo Oriental Crimson

I'm on another one of the Casio Film (Pela) watches again today, with another version of a range I blogged about 18 months ago.

This is one of the FS-01 versions which was Casio's dual display film watch design. The watch follows the usual film watch theme with its slim design, but these versions were a bit thicker but more high tech.

This is also part of the Mayfly watches which included three different ethnically styled watch lines called Tokyo, London, and New York. This is one of the Tokyo watches called the Oriental Crimson, and features an arabesque pattern on the strap along with a gold dragon. The full model number is FS-01Y-4E.

The watch has an electronic 2 hand dial, with a small 6 digit inverse LCD display below. The front of the face is angled between the dial and the LCD display, so the front of the case isn't flat. It uses a 2321 module, and has dual time, alarm, and stopwatch modes. It is also an illuminator model which lights both the LCD and the face of the dial.

Casio Film Watch Ana-Digi FS-01

It's another of the thin and light watches from Casio's Film Watch (Pela) range.
This one is the FS-01, which is similar to one already posted on the blog (a Mayfly Tokyo special edition).
This is the standard dual time Film Watch, and has a round electronic dial over the 6 digit LCD display (the Mayfly Tokyo edition had a square dial).
The watch has a 2321 module which has the modes dual time and stopwatch and displays them on the inverse LCD display.

Casio Film Watch Pela - FS-01 Mayfly Tokyo edition

This watch is another of the Casio Film Watch (Pela) range and is the FS-01 model.
This film watch is an Ana-Digi version, with the main part of the display being an electrically operated dial. Below that display is a small inverse LCD screen where the other watch functions are displayed.

The watch uses a 2321 module, with analogue display, digital display (with time, dual time, and stopwatch). The dial display is set by a small button on the left side which spins the hands when held down.

This model is a special edition in a range of Pela Film Watches released in conjunction with Mayfly Tokyo, incorporating ethnic designs, and arabesque strap designs. This particular watch appears to be the FS-01TY-6E (although the strap colour is slightly different) and includes a picture of a phoenix on the strap (other models had either a phoenix or a dragon on the strap). This model was named Oriental Violet. There were also versions from Mayfly New York, and Mayfly London, which had different strap patterns and different images of the two mythical creatures.

Casio Pela FS-11

Today is another of the retro LCD watch collection. This watch is a Casio FS-11 Pela film watch. The watch was released in 1985 as is a forerunner to the current Casio Film Watch range (see also http://whichwatchtoday.blogspot.com/2012/01/casio-film-watch-fs-02.html for a more modern example).
The watch uses a 467 module, which has a huge display compared to the tiny size of the watch, but only has time and date functions. The watch head is integrated into the strap to help keep the small feeling of the watch, and is angled for comfort.

The original sale price in 1985 was 3900yen or $16, which is the equivalent of $33 in today's money.
I got this watch as "new old stock" so had never been opened, which is pretty nice for a watch of this age :-)

Casio Film Watch FS-02

My watch today is a Film Watch by Casio. There are several different versions of the Film Watch (more will come in later posts), but the thing that all of them have in common is their thinness.
This version has a round (donut) shaped display that can be used in 3 modes:
Digital time display with day and date.
Digital hands/dial display.
Digital time with animated animals running back and forth along the bottom.
In the animated animal display, the animal changes every 10sec, and will have done 10 widths or 1 width in the time (and this alternates every minute). My guess at the animals are - horse, cat, squirrel, dog, shark and frog.
The model number of this Film Watch is the FS-02, and has a World time, data bank, and stopwatch feature.
