ODM Mysterious II

Today's watch is another Mysterious watch in my collection. Not in the way, I normally talk about mysterious watches, but this model is part of a range called Mysterious by ODM.

This model is the Mysterious II and is an LCD watch with similarities to the others I've blogged (the Mysterious +, IV, V, and VI). This one has a round inverse LCD display with a mirrored face making it a very shiny watch. The display is simple, only ever showing 3 or 4 numbers in two rows, the top row being much smaller than the bottom one. Around the edge of the display is a thick matt silver bezel, but the mystery for the watch is that there are no buttons.

In order to switch the display between the time and date options, you just need to flick your wrist to turn the watch up and down again. This registers with a sensor (likely some kind of solid state gyroscope) to change the mode. This method is also used for setting the time/date, with an inset button on the back starting the mode and switching between the numbers to change, and the tilting of the watch changing the speed that the numbers change.

There is not much other information available on the watch apart from it is all stainless steel, and 5 atm water resistant, and there are of course the odm logo and name on the back.

The ODM (or odm, or o.d.m)  brand is from Hong Kong, and the name means Original Dynamic Minimal (which definitely fits with this design which is original, requires movement (dynamic), and is definitely minimal). The brand was started in 1999 and has the motto "the art of experiment......".

This particular model seems to be an uncommon one, as I've not been able to find more online with the round display...

ODM Mysterious VI Metal

Today I'm blogging a watch type which I first posted almost 2 years ago, but this is a slight variation.

The watch is by the Hong Kong brand o.d.m (or odm) who started in 1999 to bring Original, Dynamic, and Minimal watches with "the art of experiment.........".

This model is one of the Mysterious range, and is a Mysterious VI. The design has two vertical sets of numbers, so the first column is hours and the second is the minutes (although at a glance it's hard not to try and read it as rows). Switching between time and date is by rotating the watch, and setting is from a button on the back. The watches came in two styles which changed the strap style. The model I showed 2 years ago was a leather strap version (which came in various colours), and this is the metal version with a metal link strap (with the odm logo on one link).

ODM Mysterious IV

Odm have a lot of mysterious watches, both in design and name.

This one is the Mysterious IV by ODM (or o.d.m). ODM is based in Hong Kong and was founded in 1999. The name stands for Original, Dynamic, Minimal and they are marketed towards fashion conscious people with their own style. They have different classes covering cool, elegant, travel, sporty, and fashionable, with the Mysterious IV being in the fashionable category. The website says this is undoubtedly a choice for a trendsetter, young, style-driven, and energetic person.

The Mysterious IV (code number  DD98) was brought out in 2002 and utilises the brands button-less design (as part of their Minimal design ethic). Changing between the time and date display is done by tilting the watch. The display is a vertical 4 digit LCD display with another two small characters at the bottom for PM or day. When in the date mode, the watch shows an inverse LCD display.

On the back is a setting button which cycles through the different sections with repeated presses. You tilt the watch to change the number with the numbers changing faster as you turn the watch more vertical. The band is made of silicone, and the watch module squeezes into the front hole.

ODM Mysterious V Never Too Late Message watch

This time I'm wearing a more colourful watch to celebrate today's Eurovision Song Contest final.

The watch is by the Hong Kong brand o.d.m (or odm) who were established in 1999 to make watches that were original, dynamic, and minimal.

As part of their range of watches, they produced their jelly watches which had a wide rubber strap which the module stretched into. In that set of watches, they had a couple of models with a scrolling dot matrix LCD display which would display the time and a scrolling message. For one of those types (today's Mysterious V scrolling message watch), it is possible to change the message, however you need a special device that was to be bought separately from odm (and i will include in a later post). You can tell the adjustable ones by two electric contacts on the back.

Today's model is part of a line called "23:59 Never too late", which has the message that even though you've reached the last minute, you still have another 60 seconds before the day ends. And even if there is just one minute, it is still a good time to strive to fulfill your dreams. As part of this line, the default scrolling message says "Never too late" (and this is followed by the time in inverse). With this watch, you also got a small plastic character toy with a square head and 23;59 written on its face.

From a module perspective, it has an LCD display with a 7x30? array of dots which shows time, date, and message. There is also a movement sensor where a 45 degree turn of the watch brings it back to showing the time (or switches between hours and minutes in setting mode).

ODM Mysterious +

It's a Mysterious odm (or o.d.m) day today. Odm stands for original, dynamic, and minimal, and make a range of interesting design watches, with a tag line of "the art of experiment.........".
This one is a Mysterious + with a model code of DE05, and I have published a Mysterious VI before. Both watches have a similar shape, with just the display being different.
The watch has no buttons on the front or sides, and only 1 button on the back to put in setting mode. For the time, the digits are shown oriented vertically. To show the date, you need to flip the watch upside down and back to switch the display. Time setting is done by the same method, with each flip changing the digit by one.

ODM Mysterious VI - DE01

Another day, another watch :-D
This one is another of the watches that is confusing to tell the time with at a glance.
The watch is by o.d.m and called the Mysterious VI. The model number is DE01.
o.d.m (or just odm) is a Hong Kong brand established in 1999, and stands for "original, dynamic, and minimal". The back of the watch also states they have "the art of experiment........ ".
This watch is indeed minimal, having no buttons for features, instead cycling between the time and date (seemingly only when moved). There are two pen operated buttons on the back for light and time settings.
The time itself a two row LCD, but read in columns, so at a glance it may appear to say 3:78 or 3:79 in the pictures, it is really 7:38 / 7:39.
The lack of buttons also makes it hard to set as you use a button on the back to get the digits flashing, and then the watch slowly cycles through the numbers, increasing in speed the longer you wait, until you press the button again. Pressing too early or late means you have to cycle through the setting process until you get it right. There may be something in the movement sensor that helps, but that is difficult to use while being ready to press a button on the back that requires a pen to press.
