Journal Standard limited edition retro LCD

There seems to be quite a lot of fashion brands which are popular in Japan, but relatively unknown to the rest of the world. Today's watch is from one of those brands, and another which I became aware of through the 1481010 watches.

This watch is a retro style LCD made by Journal Standard. The Journal Standard brand has been around in Japan since the 90s and has over 30 stores in Japan and Hong Kong (and also in Paris). They are makers of contemporary casual clothing for men and women, but designed for a modern world. The designs are inspired by American Casual, but with a modern take, and they are focused on creativity and quality rather than trying to follow all of the latest trends. The brand is part of Baycrew's Group which is the Japanese head company.

This watch is a classic design LCD watch which was released as a limited edition, but not numbered so I don't know how many units were produced. It has the same case shape and layout as the Casio F-91W, but with a multicolour design and Journal Standard branding. It has a two line LCD with day and date in small digits at the top and time in larger digits below. As with the 593 module in the F-91W, the watch has a stopwatch and alarm, a button to switch between 12 and 24 hr display, and an LED bulb light.

The printing on the front has the Journal Standard name, a JS logo, and the statement it is a limited edition. The back has an engraved logo with JS in a fancy font, but a different version than is currently used.

I'm not sure on the date, but I'd guess this is likely a 2000s model.

Casio Alarm Chrono A158W

After the flashy watches for Christmas, it's back to an old classic again today.

This watch is one of the retro LCD watches by Casio, and is called the A158W. It is actually a current design, reissued sometime in the 2000s, and aimed to have the charm of the classic 80s models. Looks wise, it's quite hard to tell the age, but the green LED light let's you know it's a newer model.

The A158 models are quite cheap, being in the order of $20, but still good looking and functional. It is a lithium model, and water resistant, with that title being prominently displayed on the face, but without any indication about the rating. There is a clear 2 line LCD display showing the time in 6 digits, with day and date above.

Inside, there is a 593 module, and the watch has alarm and stopwatch modes. It comes with a stainless steel Casio strap with the part number S-515DV.

Timex Skiathlom (also accidently referred to as Skiathlon)

Today's watch is a retro LCD watch by Timex. The Skiathlom is designed for easy use on the slopes, with a chronograph function (with large front buttons for easy use in ski-gloves), and an outside temperature sensor (which shows on a bar along the top of the display).

Two versions of the watch strap exist (with the shown elastic strap, and with a plastic/resin strap), and at least two different colour schemes were sold (blue & red, and purple & light blue). The watch has also been mis-quoted as Timex Skiathlon in many sites, but on closer inspection, it is indeed Skiathlom!

The watch has two lines of LCD (date along the top and time along the bottom), and the LCD bar where the temperature measurement is shown. It has alarm, chronograph, and timer modes as well as the time and temperature sensing.

It seems that the watch was released in the late 1980s and into the early 90s. One forum post from a collector mentioned that this came out in 1987 with a big advertizing push from Timex.  The trademark for the Skiathlom name was registered by Timex in 1986, and cancelled in 1993
