Swatch Dreamwater SDB113

There are many ways I choose which watch to wear - it may be based on an event, which have batteries, but today it was because the colour matched my top.

Today's watch is the Swatch Dreamwater, and this was a Swatch watch designed for surfing (and is part of the Scuba range) . The main difference is the strap which is a long fabric and velcro one with a neoprene strip as the backing (with the Dreamwater name printed on it). This strap is actually long enough to to be used over a wetsuit and the material will also be good under water.

The case is a thicker watertight case which is rated to 200m. It has a rotating bezel with minute markers which I guess can be used for dive timing. The hands are also easy to read with the minute hand having an arrow at the end, and all hands being glow in the dark.

This model has the number SDB113, and came with two strap lengths (which add an L or S to the end of the model number). It is part of the 1998 Autumn Winter collection, and was designed in 1997.

  1. I bought this very watch in Sydney in 1998. I loved it, used to wear it on the beach, during swimming, surfing, then trekking in Asia as a backpacker. It took all the abuse really well and I loved its light, yet durable construction. Then I lost it somehow in Thailand (another long stroy how) and though I was looking for it in Swatch stores in Europe later on, it was nowhere to be found. I gave up on it and let it go.
Then a few days ago I was talking about Swatch watches with a friend who also cherishes sweet Swatch memories, and all the memories came back.. I did a brief Google search (Swatch, velcro strap, green divers watch) and lots of pictures came up. It was overwhelming to see my favourite watch again after 20 years! :)
But wait, there's more..! Recalling the exact name this way I could even find a brand new, unused vintage item in a German Swatch online store which I quickly ordered..
Now I can hardly wait to receive it and finally put it back on my wrist after such a long time. It's a bit like turning back the wheel of time..
