Citizen Crystron 7100

Today's watch is an example of the quartz dial version of a watch line I've only blogged an LCD watch from before.

In the early 1970s, Citizen Watch Co. released a line of quartz watches under the Crystron name. I guess that the name came from them containing a quartz Crystal and being elecTronic.

The watches came in a range of designs with several different movements being used in the range. This one is a 3 hand dial design with both a day and a date marker at the 3 o'clock position. It has a white dial with markers and not numbers, and has the Citizen CQ symbol on the bottom of the dial.

Based on the number on the front, it suggests a  model 7100 module, although on the module itself it has 7300C, 280-18, and TW02. From these the 7100 and 7300C fit the Citizen numbering convention, but I can't be sure which (although my guess would be 7300). The serial number would indicate a 1979 date, but it may possibly be 1969. The model number is either 7100-711685 or 4-730771 with the old Citizens having numbers in both styles.

Citizen Crystron LC 40-6015

It's an old but simple watch for me today.

This one is an old LCD watch by the Japanese watch giant Citizen. It is part of their original Crystron LC range which were their first line of quartz digital watches. The Crystron name had been around earlier covering quartz analogue watches, and the LC part was added designating the LCD display.

This model (I'm assuming) is from 1978. I've based this on the serial number, and that the date input starts at 1970. Citizen didn't assume that this model would be around for this long as the date input actually finishes at 2009 before going back round to 1970 again.

It has a 5 1/2 digit LCD display with the PM marker above the smaller seconds digits. The module is a 6015, which is a basic module having only time, date, and seconds displays (but there is also a bulb based light). The full model numbers are 4-097181 and 40-6015.

Design wise, the watch is also very simple with a slightly rounded case, simple LCD display, and a pattern of alternating blue and mirrored stripes on the face. The front also has the Citizen Quartz Crystron LC name as well as the CQ symbol of the Citizen Quartz range. The strap is quite plain with the Citizen name only on the inside of the clip, and has a part number of 2477.
