Module GV9121

Today's watch has a design which seems really popular as this is the 3rd different brand with an almost identical design.

This watch is by the Module brand which has featured a few times before on this blog. The brand is made by a company called Poll Position Ltd Co, who seem to be a watch distributor (and manufacturer?) in Japan.

The watch is a rotating disc model with a left side display, and the brand logo on the right. The face only seems to be a thin horizontal rectangle as the strap is connected on the front of the case, hiding most of the case behind it.

I've blogged this exact design from two other brands which I collect. The Deadman GV 5766 seems to be the earliest of them with this design (as I've confirmed the brand existing in the late 90s), and also have a model by Deep called the 5766 NW. This model by Module doesn't share the same 5766 number as the others, and is a GV 9121. I've had the suspicion that these brands are linked in some way, for example being from the same overall owner, or branding watches from a 3rd party supplier. This watch keeps up that suspicion, but the face that it has a Deadman style model number (GV xxxx), but a different number is a little confusing.

I know that Module and Poll Position Ltd Co are still around, so I think this is a new model, and I'd guess early 10s.

Module 3D Style Dot Matrix LCD

It seems that the Internet is recognising that I collect a lot of mystery Japanese watch brands. Today's watch is another by Module, and my blog makes up a large proportion of the web hits when I keep searching.

The Module brand is made by a company called Poll Position Ltd Co. From the limited information I've found online, they may be an Osaka based manufacturing company, but also distributors of the Lip watch brand in Japan. They also have a Japanese auction profile selling these watches, but there doesn't seem to be a specific web site for the brand. The brand logo is the name MODULE, but with the O being a hexagonal shape.

This model is a different design to most of their watches as it is an LCD design rather than the more common quartz analogue watches. The LCD design is an inverse LCD, in what looks like a dot matrix array layout. As this is only used for showing digits, I can't be sure it is a true dot matrix or whether it is just split into square pixels for the digits only. The design of the digits is such that they have a 3D effect because although the digits are 2 pixels thick, it looks like they are 2 sets of 1 pixel thick numbers offset by 1 pixel to the right and down. The time display is a normal basic arrangement having just time, date, and seconds. The back of the watch just confirms the make (with the logo) and the Poll Position Ltd Co company, and the stainless steel construction, and there is also a 'Made in China' sticker attached.

The watch case is a large square design with the whole dace covered by the glass. The front of the watch extends wider than the main body making it look slimmer on your wrist than it really is. The strap is a metal chainmail style with a buckle, and this fastens directly into the main part of the case.

I bought this model brand new for a discounted ¥1000 (but it has an rrp closer to ¥2000) so I think it is a very recent release.

Module - Wide Date Window Watch

Today's watch is another from my small but growing collection of Module watches.

The Module watches are produced by a company called Poll Position Ltd Co. They are a watch sales company who distribute Lip watches as well as selling the Module. There isn't much online about the brand or company, but there is a username of Poll Position on a Japanese auction site which sells these watches too.

This watch is a 3 hand dial design with a Japanese quartz movement. There is also a date window which is do wide it goes round the bottom 1/4 of the dial. The case is a rounded square shape with a round face in the centre. The strap is connected with two fixed bars with the black leather strap wrapped round and fastened with studs (with extra studs for design).

The watch was bought new and is still available now, so it looks like a recent release.

Module - Crown rotated bezel watch

Today, I'm with one of the mystery fashion watches from my collection.

This is my third watch from a range called Module. The range has released a wide variety of different designs, as you can see in my posts, and seems to share some common designs with a few other mystery fashion watches (-more of this will be revealed as I post the watches in question). Module watches are produced by Poll Position Ltd Co, who are also a bit of a mystery. There are a few companies online which have very similar names, and the closest option seems to be an Osaka based company which distributes Lip watches and is classed as a precision equipment manufacturer, but I've still not been able to confirm this absolutely. The only English links I found for Poll Position and Module together actually link to this blog...

The watch is a 3 hand dial design watch with a quartz movement. It has a round dial on a rectangular case and a black leather strap with a wide panel of leather across the back of the watch. Looking at the watch, one unusual thing catches your eye - this watch has two crowns, one at the 3 o'clock position, and one at 4 o'clock. The crown at the 3 o'clock position is a normal crown for setting the time, but the lower crown actually rotates the bezel behind the glass. This design of rotating bezel is like a design used by the high-end Citizen world time watches, however on this watch, the bezel only has 5 minute (or second) markers with numbers only for 0, 5, and 10.

I got the watch in a completely new condition recently, so I guess that it isn't so old.

Module Flashing Rainbow 'Co-Axial Escapement'

Today's watch is a little strange in its description. It has a name which is associated with a mechanical watch, but it's an entirely electronic model.

The watch is another by the watch brand Module which is a Japanese design watch brand made (or distributed) by a company called Poll Position Ltd Co. The Module watches have many different designs, but often have a logo of the Module name, but with a hexagon for the O.

The Poll Position Ltd. Co. is another of these Japanese mystery brands who may be an equipment manufacturer, or may just be anonymous online.

This watch has a rounded square case and a 2 hand dial design. In the centre of the face is an LCD panel which is just used to show patterns of vertical lines in grey, red, blue, and black. There is a button above the crown which I think is for changing the pattern, but it is so subtle, I can't be definite it works that way. Inside, the watch dial is powered by a normal looking movement, but that is hidden under the electronics for the LCD. The battery for the dial is meant to be aligned so that the battery sits under a hole revealed by the LCD battery, but I needed to reverse some of the electronics to make it work right.

The weird part of the description is that on the dial is the text 'Co-Axial Escapement'. This is a method of regulating a mechanical watch, so it is strange to see it mentioned on a quartz module.

Module by Poll Position Ltd. Co.

Today I'm wearing another watch which appears to come from a small independent watch company.

The watch is called Module, and has a very art deco or 50s feel. The watch name is written in a way that makes me think 1930s (with the other letters sitting in front of a giant O). The design looks like a 1950s home appliance with a curved plastic (like the old bake like plastics) and shiny metal look. The dial is just to the left of centre in a rectangular window, and there is a rotating disc for the date to the right of the dial. The strap has a matching colour to the case, and is real leather with the Module logo imprinted on the back.

The back of the watch shows the name Poll Position Ltd Co, which seems to be a purchasing company based in Osaka, Japan. The links I've found suggest they deal in manufacturing equipment (although those have Poll Position Co Ltd), but it may be they used that to make a line of watches. On the other hand, it could be that the back was supplied by Poll Position for another maker. The watch design also reminds me of the French Lip watches, and another link (which I've tried to translate) suggested that Poll Position Ltd Co were official distributors in Japan for the Lip brand.
