Casio Art Casual PTM-10 Dinosaur Green

I've decided I have quite a lot of the Art Casual watches by Casio, but I still don't know much about them...

What i do know is that they seem to have been for the Far East market only, and were probably released in the 1980s to compete with the simple and colourful Swatch watches. The range came out in various designs, modules, and series.

This watch is one of the PTM series which the majority fit into. It is also the second PTM-10 watch, and this tells me that the PTM-10 series appear to all be covering different Dinosaur patterns, and so I'd guess that each series had a theme to the design.

As with the others, it is a basic 3 hand dial design, and this time it's using the 381 quartz module. It also features the fully printed strap and face that marks out the Art Casual watches. From the face of the watch, you can only see vegetation and a grey trunk, but looking on the top half of the strap, you then see the dinosaurs head (along with some flying dinosaurs). The bottom half of the strap just has more vegetation.

I haven't identified the featured dinosaur, but it could be a Diplodocus. This dinosaur was from the late jurassic period, which fits with the era of the dinosaur shown on the other watch i blogged.

The full model number is PTM-10-3E2, and it has a strap part number of 206 P6 (bottom) and P8 on the top half.

Casio Art Casual Compass PTM-26

After getting a few of these Art Casual watches, I've ended up collecting them too.

Not much has been found out about this range that was released by Casio. It seems like they were for the Far East market only, and look like they were released in the 1980s as a competitor to the Swatch watches.

This model is a 3 hand dial with a 705 module. The seconds hand is long and has a wavy pattern, with the other hands colour matching to the face. The face design looks like an old compass from a map. The strap fits in with this old ship theme having a sun with face on the top strap, and a sailing ship, anchor, and fish on the lower strap.

The full model number is PTM-26-3, and this watch was assembled in Malaysia. The strap part number is 206 F2.

Casio Art Casual Purple PTM-23-6

Casio again today, and a colourful one!

Today's watch is one of the Art Casual range of watches by Casio. The watches are basic 3-hand dials with no date, and use a Casio quartz 705 module.

The interesting thing with this range is the design. They all have bright colourful designs (a bit like a Swatch), in a very 80s pallet and pattern. I posted the PTM-10 earlier which is an identical size, but strangely a different module.

This particular model/colour variants is a PTM-23-6. It has a colourful abstract design in purple and red, with a multicoloured strap.

Not much is known about the Art Casual range, but it seems to have been a Japan only model. This one was made in Malaysia.

Casio Art Casual PTM-10 - Blue Dino

It's time for a bit of colour today with a watch from Casio.

The watch is called the Art Casual. It has a tag line of Everytime Everywhere which I guess was to suggest that you could use it for all occasions. All of the range featured full colour designs on the face and strap, and remind me of the basic Swatch watches (plastic construction, rubber strap, similar size, lots of colourful design).

The watch itself has a model number of PTM-10, with this colour variant being PTM-10-3E1. It is a simple 3-hand dial run by a 381 quartz movement.

The picture on this model is not actually a dinosaur, but a mammal-like reptile called a Dimetrodon, and is the most famous prehistoric non-dinosaur. They lived in the early to mid Permian era, and were extinct 40 million years before the Jurassic era dinosaurs. They were a large predator with a large sail on their back. They had two rows of teeth (which is associated with their name), and they grew to between 1.7 and 3.7m long. The watch features one on the dial with its tail stretching down the strap. The strap features two more Dimetrodon and a jungle/swamp scene.

Not much else is known about the Art Casual range, but I have a few guesses. Looking at the design and colours, I'd guess that these are from the 80s (maybe 90s), and there are no real references to the watch online that aren't in Japanese, so I'd guess that this was a Japan (or Far East) release only.
