Casio Twincept World Time Data Bank ABX-58

I tend to have a liking for high tech looking LCD watches, and the Casio Twincept range fits the bill.

The Casio Twincept watches from the ABX series have a nice arrangement with a normal electronic dial but an LCD display built into the glass. Thus allows them to show a range of data superimposed over the dial. The basic display has a combination of normal and dot matrix digits showing day (using the dots), date, and time (6 digits on the bottom row) . You can then change the mode and switch the LCD to show the other modes which are Data Bank, world time, alarm and stopwatch. In the world time mode, the LCD displays a world map with the selected zone flashing.

Today's model is the ABX-58 and it uses the same 1326 module as the ABX-53 watch that I blogged a while back, but has a different styling. This model has a more angular body (octagonal rather than round), and comes with a fabric and leather strap (which may not be original, but matches well). There is also a number on the bottom of the dial saying 701A2-067.

Casio Twincept ABX-23 World Time Data Bank

Another travelling watch today, and one which has had it's sibling blogged before.

It is one of the Twincept watches by Casio, and like it's relatives has a combination of analogue and digital, but with the digital display showing over the front of the analogue, rather than in a separate window (like most Ana-Digi watches). This design is the Twincept display.

The dial is a normal 3-hand dial, operated with the crown. The LCD display sits over the dial, and by default shows time (5-6 digits) , date, and day, as well as a dotted map of the world with the current time zone flashing. The 'forward' button also changes the LCD display and allows it to be switched off, or just show the day and date.

The other modes from the 2358 module are data bank (30 page), world time (27 cities), alarm, and stopwatch. There is also a backlight which illuminates the whole dial (as a series of very small dots).

The model number is ABX-23, and seems to be the ABX-23UD-8E.

Casio Twincept ABX-53 World Time Databank

Today's watch is an Ana-Digi, but this time, the digital display is over the top of the analogue dial.

It is one of the Casio Twincept models, the ABX-53, and uses a 1326 module to power the analogue, and an electronic dial.

The modes are shown on the LCD display, and the watch has telememo, world time (complete with an LCD display picture of the world - pictured below), alarm, and stopwatch.

It was originally released in the late 90s, and was sold for 11,000yen. The watch seems to be still on sale, for a normal price of around $65. The full model appears to be ABX-53CU-8A, which features a similar black leather strap.
