DJ Honda DJ009

There are a lot of watches out there which are parts of special collections made by/for celebrities. Out of those I have come across, the watches from the DJ Honda fashion collection are the most interesting and varied set that I've seen.

This watch is the DJ009 (or DJ 009) and is an LCD model. It has a sideways inverse LCD, with the display being viewed best from along your arm. The case is plastic with a shiny silver surround to the LCD being screwed onto the front. The strap is rubbery, and is in one piece, going across the front of the face, and fastening with a buckle at the back. The LCD is a 2 line design, with the top line normally showing day and date, with the 6 digits for the time below. There is a standard collection of modes in the watch - stopwatch, timer, alarm, and dual time, and there is also an el-backlight (which beeps when you press, so it's not good for quiet night use).

The back has the DJ Honda 'h' logo in the centre, along with the usual statements (water resistant, stainless steel back, Base metal bezel) and the model number. Based on the designs in the collection, I think that they were produced in collaboration with Seiko (or Alba) as a couple of models are almost the same as late 90s Seiko AKA designs.

DJ Honda DJ002 Rotating Disc watch

It's been a long time since I blogged one of this brand of watches, so I thought it was about time for another.

The watch is by DJ Honda and is the 3rd from this brand I've featured here. DJ Honda is otherwise known as Katsuhiro Honda and is a famous Japanese hip hop DJ and producer. In the 90s, he started a clothing and accessories line using his 'h'  logo for the products. As part of this clothing line, he released a series of watches, and if there was one for every model number I've seen, there are at lease 8 different designs.

This model is DJ002 and is a rotating disc style of watch. It has a common shape of case, with a round centre where the face sits. The face is grey with a black stripe down the middle where the 'h' logo lies. At the bottom of the face is a small window where the time discs can be seen. This is a 2 disc design, and so there is no seconds display. It has a metal link strap which is fastened by a 'h' branded clasp.

The back has the brand name and logo, as well as the normal info (water resistant 5bar, stainless steel back, base metal bezel).

The watch was originally sold for ¥18,900, but isn't available anymore (and it seems that is the case for all of the DJ Honda watches).

DJ Honda LED Watch

Today's watch is my second DJ Honda watch, and I thought it was appropriate as I'm going to a dance music event tonight.

DJ Honda (aka Katsuhiro Honda) is a Japanese hip hop DJ, producer, and clothing company owner. As part of his clothing line which started in the 1990s, he released various watches with his 'h' logo (both printed on the front and engraved on the back, and for this watch, on the clasp).

This watch is an LED watch in the original style with very narrow lines making up the digits. There are two main buttons which are used to show either the time (top), or date (bottom), and there is an inset button for setting (-hold in until the time doesn't disappear when you release the button, and then each of the buttons sets one on the sets of digits).

It is a very chunky design in gold colour, so is pretty noticeable.

The model number is DJ003

DJ Honda Flash Beam

I've blogged a few watches before where a watch brand has collaborated with a DJ and released a model under both names. Today is a watch where the DJ appears, but with no manufacturers mark.

The watch is called the Flash Beam and is by DJ Honda. DJ Honda is the stage name of Katsuhiro Honda, who is a hip hop DJ, music producer, and runs his own clothing company. He has produced many tracks and has worked with the likes of Mos Def and Red man. The watch is part of the clothing company which was started in in the 1990s, and opened in New York in 2000, but I don't know when the watch was released. The clothing line (best known for it's top selling baseball caps) goes under the name h - displayed the font normally used for his full DJ name, and can be seen above the LCD display, and engraved into the back.

The watch itself is a quartz LCD watch with a 6 digit inverse LCD display, with day markers along the top. The watch is controlled by 4 buttons (two front and two side), and has alarm and stopwatch modes (and a button to display the date). The 5th button operates the Flash Beam which is an LED torch mounted on the left side of the watch. The flash beam was especially designed as a feature for some of his watches, and is there with the purpose of giving light while you operate your decks in a dark club!

The back shows just the model name DJ004 (and the label says DJ004-02), and with no module number, I can't tell if the watches were actually made by one of the larger manufacturers. The label that came with it also has the number 7978 but that isn't too helpful either. The original sale price was 12,000 yen.
