SD Dechonpa Kamen Rider

I've covered the Kamen Rider series (AKA Masked Rider) in watches before, but they've been based on his clothing (belts or helmet), but this one has the whole Kamen Rider on.

This watch is the SD Dechonpa Masked Rider watch. The Dechonpa watches were released by Bandai from the mid 80s to the early 90s, and this is from the SD range which featured Super Deformed versions of different characters.

This model is from 1989 and is a version of Kamen Rider. Based on the date, I think this will be from around the 9th or 10th series called Kamen Rider Black or Kamen Rider Black DX from the Shōwa Era of the show, and were the last series before a 10 year gap. Kamen Rider is a series started in 1971 about the motorcycle riding superhero who had been the victim of mutation from a terrorist organization called Shocker, but had escaped before he was brainwashed.

To get into the watch, Kamen Rider's legs act as a switch releasing the catch and letting his head rise up to show the LCD display. The display is a simple 4 digit LCD panel showing time, date, or seconds, switched by the button on the back of the watch.

Dechonpa Anime Watch - Tonde Mon Pe

Today is the second one of my Dechonpa Anime Watches.

The Dechonpa watch range of watches were released by Bandai in the 1980s and through into the early 90s, and we're released in two types (SD Dechonpa, and Dechonpa Anime Watch). I'd thought that the simpler SD watches came first, but this is my second Anime watch based on a series that aired in 1982.

This one is based on the Anime series Tonde Mon Pe. The anime was from TMS Entertainment which is one of the oldest and most prominent anime studios in Japan (founded in 1946). Tonde Mon Pe came was aired from June 1982 and followed the story of a 15 year old country girl called Mon-Mon who becomes an au-pair for a rising fashion designer  (Mrs Kano), and her psychic baby Pe-Pe (who makes toys and animals do odd things).

The watch features the baby Pe-Pe and her toys/pets (-this is a deduction though, as there is very little on the anime online).

As with the other Anime Watch, there is a large LCD display (under the lid) with time in one corner and a picture which fills as the minute progresses. The picture appears to be of Mon-Mon and Pe-Pe with the same two characters with Pe-Pe on the watches lid. Around the display are Mrs Kano and her writer husband (and some ducks). The time part of the LCD is simple with just time, date, and seconds.

Bandai Dechonpa Anime Watch - Space Sheriff Gavan

It's another if my Dechonpa collection today.

I've posted quite a few of the SD Dechonpa watches before, but this is one from the other range - the Anime Watch. The Dechonpa watches were released by Bandai in the 80s and early 90s.

The Anime Watch was different from the SD watches based on the module. These watches have an LCD display with the time in the top left, and another part which fills up to show an image of a character. For these watches, the head is mounted on an elasticated cuff strap.

The outside of the box only says in Japanese who the character on today's watch is. All you can tell is that they wear a large silver helmet, and fight with a giant sword. There is a sticker on the box stating Toei 05, indicating that this is from the Japanese film and television company who are responsible for most of the series such as Masked Rider and Power Rangers.

The instruction manual has some words in English revealing this is Space Sheriff Gavan (aka Space Cop Gabin). Space Sheriff Gavan was the first of the Metal Hero Series and aired in Japan between 1982 and 1983. The Metal Hero series was one Toei's superhero shows and featured androids, cyborgs, or humans in robotic suits, and ran through to 1999. The Metal Hero line is no longer running, but some of the traits have been merged into Toei's other superhero series.

Bandai SD Dechonpa Moomins in Love

Another of the types of watch I've ended up collecting (after getting a 'critical mass' that made me want to get more...) are the Dechonpa watch range by Bandai.
The Dechonpa range had two types of watch that I've found, the SD range, and the Anime watch range (which I'm yet to blog). The SD range features many different TV and film characters in a Super Deformed version. The range was started in the 80s, and finished in 1994.

This particular model came out in 1990 and features characters from the Moomins.

The Moomins were the central characters created by Tove Jansson in a series of books and a comic strip which started in 1945. The stories follow the lives of the trolls and their community in Moominvalley. In 1990, an animated version was released by TV Tokyo (the second series after a 1970s British stop-motion series), and this watch corresponds to that series.

The watch features two of the Moomins, Moomin (on the right), and his girlfriend Snork Maiden (on the left). When the bottom button is pressed, the Moomins part, and another character, Little My, is revealed (looking angry at the two Moomins). The characters also have eyes that change from open to closed (and smiling) when the display is revealed.

The watch part is basic with time, date, and seconds displays on the 4 digit LCD display. The buttons controlling the display and setting the time and date are on the back of the watch.

It's back has some text in Japanese,  'Copyright 1990 M B T T' , and 'Bandai 1990 Japan'.

Bandai SD Dechonpa Godzilla

It's been a few months since I posted one of the SD Dechonpa watches, so here is another one.

This one is a Godzilla watch, and as it's part of the SD range, he is a Super Deformed version (and is also referred to as Godzilla kun). Godzilla is one of the most known of the Japanese giant monsters and first appeared in 1954. Godzilla was created by accident from a nuclear detonation.

The SD Dechonpa watches were released from the 80s and through until 1994 by Japanese toy and game manufacturer Bandai.

It is a basic LCD module with only time, date, and seconds (changed by buttons on the back). To reveal the time, you move Godzilla's right leg, his mouth opens revealing the display, and his arms lift.

This one was made in 1989, and the box states "This is No. 1 Hero Watch"

Bandai SD Dechonpa Batman

Over my years of collecting, I seem to have collected many kids watches, and have ended up with a lot of these SD watches.

This watch is one of the SD Dechonpa watches by Bandai. The SD stands for Super Deformed, and all of the watches feature a film or TV character with super large heads and short limbs. As far as I have found out, the range started in the 80s, and finished in 1994.

This particular model is the SD Batman watch, featuring Gotham City's hero in black. The LCD display is hidden under the head, and is shown by using the legs as a switch to allow the body to lower and reveal the panel. On this model, lowering the body also causes the arms to swing out showing Batman's wings.
It has a simple LCD module, with time, date, and seconds, and can be adjusted from buttons on the back of the watch.

This watch was released in 1989 by Bandai in conjunction with DC Comics.
As well as the name, pictures, and the Batman logo, it says that this is a "degital watch", and also that "This is No. 1 hero watch".
