Casio Baby-G BG-2000

It seems like it's been a while since I last wore a Casio G-Shock or Baby-G, so I've decided to sort that out today.

The watch I chose is one of the Baby-G line which a set of smaller G-Shock models and are primarily aimed at women, but are suitable for anyone (especially if you have a smaller size wrist).

This model is the BG-2000 and is one of the square case designs that has been a theme across many different models. This model has a green inverse mirrored LCD display which mainly uses a dot matrix for showing the different information. The display is split into 3 parts by two printed lines running across the screen. The middle part shows the time, with has a small animation as the numbers change, and has the strange feature in that for the middle part of the minute, the time display grows and then shrinks (by 2 pixels in height). The bottom line of the display has the most information by default, with a long thin dot matrix array showing day, date, and seconds. The top section mainly has icons to show items such as am/pm, alarm settings, etc. along with 4 dots which pulse with the seconds.

Inside is a 3077 module which powers the watch. This gives the watch many modes, which are world time (29 zones with 44 cities), alarm (x5), stopwatch, timer, and a silent mode where the display is blank.

The watch features a chunky white plastic case with a square silver bezel. The strap is designed to look seamless with the case, but is replaceable (although you would need the specific strap which matches this model). Overall, the case gives a 10 bar water resistance, and this model is made in China.

This design is still shown on the Casio website, but not in this colour. For one a black model, I also saw that it was first listed on Amazon in 2007, so I assume that this white version is from the same time.

Casio Baby-G BG-2200G

Today's watch is another of the Baby-G line by Casio, but with a different look than normal.

A lot of the Casio G-Shock and Baby-G watches have a similar range of shapes, and so a recognisable from a distance. This watch has the same look as the square models, but it has been squashed from both sides to make a rectangular watch.

This model is the BG-2200G and is a ladies watch that looks ok on a small wrist. It has a 2 line LCD display where the digits are made up of square dots. Above the main time line are the pm and alarm markers, and in the top right  corner are 5 dots arranged in a circle one of which flashes each second around the circle. Inside is a 3128 module which gives this stopwatch, timer, alarm, and dual time modes. The back confirms this 10 bar water resistant, and was made in China, as well as showing the Baby-G logo.

This particular variation is the BG-2200G-7JF, which is a white and gold model. The watch has a gold coloured LCD panel, and there is a thick gold fixed rectangular bezel around the display.

It was released in October 2009, and was a Japan only model. The original sale price was ¥14175.

Casio Baby-G BG-184 brown

The storm is still here so I'm wearing a tough watch again today, with this one from Casio's Baby-G range.

The Baby-G watches are the smaller ladies (or unisex for those with a small wrist) tough watches that spun off from the G-Shock line.

This model is the BG-184 and is one of the square design Baby-G watches. It still has a rugged feel, and the LCD display is set deep inside the casing. The range came in a variety of colours and so you can get one to match with all manner of outfits. The display is a white LCD panel with mirrored numbers over two lines with the mode indicators inbetween.

It has a 2902 module and is quite light on features for a Baby-G. All it has is an alarm, timer, and stopwatch. As with all Baby-Gs, it is 10 bar water resistant and shockproof.

This line are still shown on the Casio website, so appear to still be on sale.

Casio Baby-G BG-110 L.A. Version

A while ago, I posted about a series of G-Shock mini watches that came out in 1994 and were the forerunners to the Baby-G watch range. This watch is one of the early Baby-G models and is almost identical in design to the DW-610 model.

The model is the BG-110 and may have been part of a range called Tripper. It has a yellow body with purple trim and strap, and the letters L.A. at the bottom of the face (which I guess stands for Los Angeles and would fit in with the Tripper name). Apart for the colours, it has the same shape and face as the DW-610 and shares the Casio 1416  module.

The display is a 6 digit LCD with smaller seconds and a squashed first digit. Above the first and last digits in the time are two small pairs of digits showing the month and date, while in the middle is a small dot matrix panel with a letter G (which rotates every 10 sec). Pressing the light button shows an animation of a surfing stickman, the same as the DW-610, and this dot matrix array also shows letters for the different modes as you select them. Above all of these is a curved bar used in the timer mode which has sections for start, 5 minutes, and finish.

The modes included in this model are alarm, timer, and stopwatch.

I haven't found exactly when this model was released, but I guess it would be around 1995, early in the life of the Baby-G range.

Casio Baby-G Witchy BG-410

There are many different varieties of Casio G-Shock and Baby-G watches, but there is a familiar look to most of them.

Today's Baby-G is one of the most unusual variants I've seen, both for the shape of the watch and the design of the LCD display.

The watch is a BG-410 model which has been made for a line of watches called Witchy (or W!tchy if you believe the logo). I can't find any reference to this name apart from in connection with the watches, so have to assume it's just a line by Casio.

For this model, the shape was the first unusual part. It is built so that the top of the watch is thicker than the bottom so that the watch sits angled on your wrist (with the Baby-G name moulded on the long edge). The strap is very stiff and in one piece which loops behind the head (and has a part number of 506 Y2 19)

The second unusual thing is the display. Most of the LCD panel is used to show animations rather than any of the normal watch functions. The middle 60% is taken up with a 9x11 block dot matrix and has a repeating animation of a wizard or witch waving their wand followed by an explosion, and then an animal. The animals that it cycles through are jellyfish, turtle, penguin, cow/hippo/pig (not exactly sure but it has 4 legs and a thick body), goose, and crab.

The watch features are shown in small digits along the top (day and date) and bottom (time). It uses a 1951 module and also has an alarm function (marked by a duck!) and an el-backlight. The last two modes are more unusual. One is a day counter which gives the difference in days between the current time and a day you set. The other, I've not worked out yet - it cycles through options P1-P4 (player 1 to 4?) while showing a flying witch. When you select one, it tells you to push (the button) and then displays a percentage score along with a more animated version of one of the animals (or maybe a person). So far, it seems random, but the button order may affect things. They also have strange names marked on the body.

I don't know when this model was officially released, but the date setting starts at 1995, so this is a 90s Baby-G.

Casio Baby-G White BG-1206-5

I thought I should never start collecting the Casio G-Shock and Baby-G, but it seems that I failed...

Today's watch is a Baby-G by Casio. The Baby-G range are a set of smaller G-Shock watches which are aimed at women (but are often good for both men and women).

This watch is a model BG-1206-5, which was released November 2006 and is part of a series referred to as "New colour variations". It features a round face with a mirrored LCD display. Time is shown on a 6 digit standard display, with a small dot matrix display at the top for the date (but also shows one of a range of animated animals either randomly or when the el-backlight is activated). The strap is matched with the head, and has a part number of 679 EJ2 >PUR<

The watch uses a 2950 module, and has time, date, alarms, stopwatch, timer, world time (including average monthly temperature highs and lows for 30 cities), and code memo (up to 40 records of up to 7 digits).

It has the same shock resistance as the G-Shocks, is 10 bar water resistant, and should last 3 years on its CR1620 battery.
