Evangelion Watch Project EVA-W01

Today's watch is huge! It is about as wide as my wrist is thick.

It is an officially licence product by Gainax, who were the company behind the Evangelion anime series. The box has the NERV logo, along with the phrase "God's in his heaven. All's right with the world".

The W01 is inspired by Shinji's giant robot from the Evangelion anime, featuring the iconic purple and Green livery. The design of the LCD display is also inspired by the anime, featuring the same font as they use. The back is engraved with the NERV logo, model number, and a 4 digit serial number. It also states that the watch is produced by Quad Elements, and designed by SII.

The watch was made in conjunction with Seiko. Mode-wise, it has an alarm and a chronograph function.

Lip Fridge by Roger Tallon

Today's watch is another by French watch producers Lip, and designed by Roger Tallon.

Roger Tallon was born in 1929, and made his name as an industrial designer. His best known work is the TGV train system in France, but in 1975 he started working with Lip on watch designs including the Mach 2000 (blogged previously) and this model, the "Fridge".

Lip have been producing watches for 145 years, and have worked closely with industrial, architectural, interior, and graphic designers to produce their visionary watches.

The Fridge watch has a very 70s clean white design reminiscent of a refrigerator, and was originally designed in 1971 . It's 3-hand dial is deeply recessed into the face, and incorporates a date marker at the 3 o'clock position. The case is made in two parts which clamp around the one-piece white leather strap.

The collection were re-released starting in 2005, and as this is a quartz model (and mentions the website on the back), I assume it is one of those. It does however, have an angled 'p' on the word Lip on the front, which is similar to the original 70s models.

Swatch Scuba AquaChrono FIVB World Championships 09 Stavanger

Each year, Swatch sponsors the Fédération Internationale De Volleyball (FIVB) world beach volleyball tour. Of course, to mark the occasion, they release a limited edition watch (now 3 limited editions in 3 days ;-)).

The watch for the 2009 championship was an AquaChrono in black and gold (including the number 09 at the 9 o'clock position in gold to mark the events year). The design also has a bezel which has the pointer at 9 rather than the more normal 12. The strap states this is for the Swatch FIVB'09 World Championships, and for each location on the tour, the cities name (Stavanger in this case) is printed on the strap holder by the buckle.

The AquaChrono was released in 1994, and is a combination of a Scuba 200 and Chronograph. It is a 3-hand dial, with date at the 3 o'clock position. One the face are 3 small dials for the chronograph, which are 2 x dials to 60 (seconds and minutes), and a dial to 10 (tenths of a second).

Fossil Appliances Radio limited edition

It's two limited editions in two days with today's choice of watch.
Today's watch is by Fossil, and has a limited edition of 20,000 (so not quite so exclusive). It was one of two Fossil Appliances watches which was released in August 1994. The Fossil Appliances name is from the theme of the picture on the front of the watch. The picture shows a 1920s/30s style advert with a cartoon man reaching to the dial of an old radio, which in this case is the watch face.
Because of this design, the 3-hand dial is very small, but just functional enough.
The strap design is also unusual, with it being made of interwoven leather strips, but with no buckle holes. The buckle pin just goes between the weave!
The style number is LE-9449.

Seiko Wired 2nd Anniversary Limited Edition W710

In the year 2000, Seiko started a new range of watches under the name Wired. The watches were high-end high design pieces, often with designs linked to travelling.

In 2002, to mark the 2nd anniversary of the Wired range, they released this watch, with probably the most complex LCD display I have ever seen. To be able to make the curvy numbers, each number us made up of a large number of segments (e.g. a number 9 in the hours has 28 segments). To match all of the segments, the numbers also shift from side to side. I've tried to get a picture that shows all of the segments, and you can see that below.

Another unusual feature is that the time is set using a crown. Pulling the crown out puts it in setting mode, where a fast turn makes the time progress fast, and small clicks progress individual minutes.

All of this is powered by a W710 module, with a full model number of W710-0AA0. As it was out in 2002, the limited edition had only 2002 watches released. The strap also has a part number of F1W5-B.Q.

An updated version of this display was used a year later in the Basel 2003 Limited Edition (which can be found here)

Casio Film Watch Ana-Digi FS-01

It's another of the thin and light watches from Casio's Film Watch (Pela) range.
This one is the FS-01, which is similar to one already posted on the blog (a Mayfly Tokyo special edition).
This is the standard dual time Film Watch, and has a round electronic dial over the 6 digit LCD display (the Mayfly Tokyo edition had a square dial).
The watch has a 2321 module which has the modes dual time and stopwatch and displays them on the inverse LCD display.

Nooka x Hellz Limited Edition Zoo

It's been a while since I posted a Nooka, so to make up for it, here is a limited edition one!

The Nooka brand was started in 2004 by Matthew Waldman to produce his unique watch designs, one of which had previously been sold by Seiko. They have collaborated with many brands and products including this one with Hellz.

Hellz is a contemporary clothes brand from LA which was started in 2006. It caters for the class of rebellious youth who specialise in the creation of subculture, and tries to balance a fine line between constraint and restraint.

The Hellz collaboration watch has a shiny blue and purple face which looks like a photo from outer space. It is a limited edition release which came out in November 2008, and had only 200 released!

This Noola model is a Zoo from the V-Series style. The minutes are shown as dots in a bar along the top, with the hours in a large window at the bottom. The other displays are am/pm, seconds, and alarm indicator.
